One of the concepts that grounds my therapeutic approach is the research from Kristin Neff on self-compassion. She breaks down self-compassion into 3 elements: mindfulness, self-kindness, and common humanity.
Mindfulness brings you into the present moment, self-kindness asks you to treat yourself as you would a friend, and common humanity reminds us that our mistakes actually bind us together and connect us to other human beings.
